Emergency responders prepare for Rose Bowl festivities

The annual Tournament of the Roses is quickly approaching and Pasadena, California, is preparing for the event by updating their wireless communication system. The Rose Bowl Game is scheduled to take place on January 2nd and this year will be the 98th Rose Bowl to be played in Pasadena. Other events set to occur as part of the tournament's festivities include the annual Rose Parade, Bandfest, Equestfest and the Post Parade: A Showcase of Floats. However, in order to to ensure all activities will go down without a hitch, emergency response teams have decided to do a general overhaul of outdated radio equipment.  Pasadena Star-News reports that emergency first responders will be able to enjoy the new radio system just in time for the parade and Rose Bowl game. "The old system served the city well, but it was about 30 years old and outdated. This modern, digital-trunked radio system will allow…much greater communications access and range," explained communication supervisor, Steven Page. There are a variety of two-way radios...

How can radio accessories customize a company’s communication solution?

How can radio accessories customize a company’s communication solution?

Choosing the perfect two-way radio is important for any company or industrial application, but it also helps to provide staff with radio accessories that can optimize radio function and communication capabilities. There are a variety of accessories that can make using two-way radios more convenient for the task at hand or for the environment in which they are being used. For instance, having headsets that are compatible with your radios allows employees to communicate when it is necessary, while also allowing them to keep hands available for other assignments. Headsets are great for blocking out other noise, such as the Medium Weight over-the-head Dual Muff Headset with Noise Canceling Microphone & In-Line PTT (AARMN4019A). Carry cases are also helpful on a job site. Clipping a portable two-way radio onto a belt is made easy with the Leather Case with Belt Loop (HLN9652A) or the Leather DTMF Case with Swivel (HLN9694A). The Weatherproof Bag (HLN9985B) is perfect for when a radio might be exposed to the elements as it is...

Pet paramedics need two-way radios

Pet paramedics need two-way radios

A family dog or kitten is just as important as a human to many people. During an emergency situation, it is imperative that response teams be well equipped to get the animal to safety right away. When a dog gets run over by a car or a pet bird hurts its wings, there is little time to waste, and those precious seconds could be further decreased without an efficient means of communication. Two-way radios can be a great resource for paramedics and veterinarians to communicate during these situations. The Arizona Republic reports that the local pet paramedic squad uses two-way radios as one of their essential ways to handle an emergency. With an average of 443 calls week, it is easy to understand why communication is vital to caring for injured pets in the area. Pet paramedic squads may want to consider equipping their response trucks with a mobile radio so that they can communicate on the go. The Motorola CM200 is a great option and because it is...

It’s the time of year for ice fishing

Ice fishing is a favorite winter activity in many parts of the United States. The iced over waters prove to be yet another challenge in hooking that prize-worthy catch. Fishing during the winter may seem simple enough – all you need to do is drill a hole in the ice and drop your line in the water. However, there is a lot more to ice fishing than meets the eye and a wireless communication device is a great resource. Many people decide to go on an ice fishing expedition with an experienced guide or tour group. Guides and tour companies might want to consider carrying two-way radios with their other ice fishing supplies. Fishing under these conditions can become dangerous quickly, and having a reliable source of communication can be life saving. An environment such as this will require that your company uses a rugged radio that can withstand the elements. The Motorola EX560-XLS is perfect for outdoor applications like ice fishing. Communication via mobile radios is safe for school buses

Communication via mobile radios is safe for school buses

According to School Transportation News, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is recommending that all wireless communication become outlawed. This would include all forms of wireless communication on school buses as well. The NTSB is recommending the ban after a 2010 multi-vehicle accident, involving a school bus, was caused by a driver who was texting. While the risk of accidents is clearly related to texting, emailing and casually talking on the phone and other electronic device while driving, it is important for schools to realize that there is a safe option for communication among school bus drivers.   There are a variety of mobile radios that can be installed right into a school bus for safe and efficient communication. It is important to maintain a means of wireless communication for general information and in the case of an emergency, and these radios can provide the communication needed while still complying with potential bans. The Motorola CM200 and CM300 provide communication with ease of use and functionality. These radios are rugged...
